Ok this might get a bit offensive for some games but I want to stay clear that I have played every game I talk about and I have played them around 50 - 500 h.
First off the usual stuff.
These days gameseries can be easily almost 10 games long.
The series release new games every year or two.
The problem is that they will release more and more low quality games becouse the other series does it and they fear that they get left behind.
There has been many great games but usually 1 or 2 per game series.
Now lets get into FPS world.
The two main gameseries are fighting from the FPS title.
Call Of Duty and Battlefield, Ofcourse I couldn't totally ignore Halo and Medal of Honor but I never got into them so I haven't played them too much. (I don't count CS as a gameserie)
Call of Duty has in my opinion two great games what overdo many games.
Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4:Modern warfare.
Call of Duty 2 Is basic WWII game with some of its own stuff in it.
Call of Duty 4 was totally new experiment what was huge success.
So from the success they made an really bad idea... They continued the MW series...
There came out MW2... The singleplayer campaign didn't offer much of challenge or good plot.
The multiplayer of MW2 got screwed without Dedicated servers and many doesn't like the game becouse of that.
And now they are making MW3 already just after they released MW2...
What will it be now? Again average Campaign but maybe this time fixed multiplayer? It will never get as populated as CoD4 was back in the day so why they do this?
Well the main reason goes back to Battlefield series.
Battlefield series has been pretty great the time it has been made.
BF1942 was an whole new thing for gaming world when it came out and it got huge success.
BFVietnam was Interesting new experience and they managed to make it feel like real Vietnam with all the music and Fancy random comments from NPC's
BF2 was maybe the biggest thing what happened to FPS gaming ever.
BF2 made us familiar with MANY vechicles and unlockable weapons and great ranking system.
You could fly a jet or heli or maybe you wanted to drive a tank or race with a car? everything was found it BF2.
BF2142... I only played the demo myself but it was pretty much like other BF2 game with different scene.
Then there came to whole new and glory game called Battlefield Bad Company.
This game would have been maybe the greatest of Bf series if they would have released it for PC too and not only consoles. I have not played this game so I leave it as it is.
Then there came few "mini" games like BF heroes and BF1943 what really didn't serve too big purpose they were more like fillers.
Then its the time for the "MW2 Killer" BFBC2. Atlast they released a Badcompany game for PC gamers... but whats this? Its minimally updated BC1? I mean it has great graphics and some great explosions but really nothing new.
And now there is a beta released for Battlefield3.
These gameseries fight so hard that they just put new games on release before old ones are even year old. They just can't make too great games if they just keep making new ones in hurry.
I have not seen anything mindbreaking in the new FPS games since COD4 and BF2.
I sure hope they are making some effort with MW3 and BF3 becouse if they make them in hurry Im not going to buy them.
(I left BF2 Modern Combat for PS2 out becouse it really isn't one in main series)
